GeoCaching is basically a high tech game of "Hide and Go Seek" using GPS technology.
GeoCaching is pronounced "Geo-Cashing".
Someone goes out and hides a container (sometimes an old ammo box, more commonly a small plastic container, like Tupperware) somewhere in a public area. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to go out and find it :). In the container is usually kids stuff, although some may have neat stuff like swiss army knives, a compass, batteries, or CDs! You're supposed to take something, then leave something in its place. Most often, I just take nothing and leave nothing. I come for the adventure!
I became involved in GeoCaching in Feb. 2001. I found out about it because someone told me it was a cool way to make use of my PocketPC & GPS. Before I started GeoCaching, I never visited many of the places that I visit now. It really helped me get out and about, and I love it. It gives you a great appreciation for nature and all that :).
Joe Thielen's Number One Rule Of GeoCaching: BE PERSISTANT!!!
When you're out there in the field trying to find this darn little box in the middle of a forest or something, it can get VERY FRUSTRATING if you don't find it right where the GPS says it is. Well, KEEP LOOKING. Expand your search area! The GPS signal can be wacked out by tree cover, large hills, buildings, etc... and even in a wide-open field, the GPS can be off by over 30'! With a bad signal, it can be off by nearly 150'!!! SO BE PERSISTANT. Keep looking. The treasure awaits you!
