My Casio Cassiopeia E-125 Pocket-PC!
Software

BACK

Here's some of the software it's pre-loaded with:
  • MS Windows CE 3.0 (Pocket-PC)
  • Casio Menu
  • Calendar (A very nice calendar utility)
  • Contacts (An equally nice contact manager)
  • Calculator
  • Task List
  • Notes (For simple text notes)
  • E-Mail INBOX
  • MS Pocket Internet Explorer
  • MS Pocket Excel
  • MS Pocket Word
  • MS Reader (for E-Books)
  • MS Pocket Money
  • MS Media Player
  • Solitaire
  • Microsoft ActiveSync
  • AvantGo
  • Software I've Gotten to Work With the E-125

  • DeveloperOne ScreenSnap
  • Takes a screenshot of the current screen. You press the 'Voice Record' button to activate it. Pretty cool!
  • CECraft Pinball - Young Paladin
  • Pretty neat lil' pinball game here. The game has some bugs (like disappearing balls) but CECraft has already released an updated version (V1.01), and may release more. I'm impressed with that. And the upgrades are free! The game actually has a plot, although I don't follow it. I just wanna smash some balls around! It's $29.95, but I think it's a lot of fun! The sound is very cool, too.
  • ZioSoft SimCity 2000
  • I bet you can hear that music now :). This is really a cool game, and if you played it, you know how much fun it is (and how much time it can consume). It sure is fast (compared to the PlayStation version I've used), and it's supposed to be able to read and write to the same 'saved game' format as the PC version. This means games created with the PocketPC version should work with the PC version, and vice-versa! Kewl. I'm still looking for the $1 Million cheat code (PC code doesn't work :( ), but aside from that, I think this is a great game!
  • FTPView
  • A FREE FTP utility for the PocketPC (no really, this one is FREE!). Nice, supports different clients, and has a tree-based structure.
  • AOL Instant Messenger for PocketPCs
  • What can I say? It's the AOL IM! I don't like AOL at all, but their IM software is pretty much standard... and it actually works (compared to AOL... ha!). In any case, the AOL IM software for the PocketPC is pretty neat.
  • XAudio Network MP3 Player
  • This handy little utility allows you to play MP3s from NetBEUI/NetBIOS shares (a.k.a. Windows Networking... but I've been using it OK with Linux SAMBA shares, too!!!). It's pretty neat, but it's not a mature product.
  • It currently searches an entire share for all the MP3s, and just displays them. While fine for small shares, if you have a share with A TON OF MP3s on it (like I have a 20GB hard drive FULL of MP3s), it will hang up because it cannot handle it. However, if you create a separate share and just put some in there, it's happy.
  • Works pretty well for me. Has a bit of buffering, so it can compensate for short periods of network signal loss.
  • A GREAT program which complements what the PocketPC is all about!
  • HtmlEdit
  • The PocketPC lacks a general text editor. The Notes utility doesn't seem to want to edit .html files.
  • HTMLEDIT to the rescue! This little text editor is nothing fancy at all, but it will get the job done.
  • One thing I don't like is that it only looks for '.htm' files and not '.html'. In order to find '.html' files, you have to select the 'All Files (*.*)' option, then find your '.html' file. And when you save, select 'Save' and not 'Save As', otherwise, you'll save it as an '.htm' file!
  • Ozi Explorer
  • A GREAT GPS program for you Casio. Is not free, but is worth the money if you're into GPS ($100 for desktop/CE software).
  • Allows you to scan in your own maps, or use downloaded images (i.e. like United State Geological Services (USGS) DRG/Topo maps, which are FREE!).
  • You have to calibrate any scanned or downloaded image for use with GPS Lat/Lon coordinates. Otherwise how does Ozi know where you place the arrow at??? :)
  • Is in COLOR (as long as your maps are), and allows for several zoomable levels (a BIG improvement over Solus Pro!)
  • I couldn't get it to work with my DeLorme Earthmate GPS receiver, but I did get it to work great with my Magellan GPS315 GPS receiver!
  • FTPSVR
  • An FTP server for your PocketPC!
  • Does not support deleting files...
  • Doesn't appear to do anything after you tap it, but it does work! It just places itself in the background.
  • DOOM4CE
  • Doom4CE now works on the Casio E-125! It's great! It's free! Get it today!
  • You know you want to play it! You've probably played it over a million times (I know I have :) ).
  • Code Wallet 3.0 by DeveloperOne
  • I love this thing! It's great! Store ALL your important info in an encrypted state!!!
  • PocketChess V1.1 for PocketPC By Tinyware
  • Fun for trips... very hard :)
  • ShangHai (SiChuan Taipei) By Su Yilei
  • I love this game! It's a Mahjongg-style game.
  • DeLorme Solus Pro Mapping/GPS software
  • Not as good as Street Atlas or AAA Map 'N Go, but in a portable state it does get the job done!
  • Not in color :(
  • Batty (Arkanoid-Style) By Daniel Jackson
  • Brings me back to the good ole' days of the Atari 2600...
  • Doesn't play very well when running Media Player at the same time!
  • QTris (Tetris-Style) By Daniel Jackson
  • Gotta have a Tetris-type game! Score another for Daniel Jackson!
  • A Bit hard to control with the E-125's joypad (although I don't like the joypad anyway :) )
  • Squirmy By Daniel Jackson
  • A fun 'worms' type game in which you eat fruit (& stuff) to grow longer, but try not to run into blocks (or yourself!). Score yet another for Daniel Jackson!
  • Very hard to control with the E-125's joypad (although I don't like the joypad anyway :) )
  • MAME (Multi Arcade Machine Emulator) CE3 for PocketPC Ver 0.36Beta8.0 By Techmaster
  • Donkey Kong (US)
  • Frogger
  • Galaga (Namco)
  • Mario Bros. (US)
  • Star Wars (Rev. 2)
  • Puzzle of Pipes by Scott Seligman
  • Very fun and addictive game!
  • Jimmy Software Landscape
  • A great utility for using the Pocket Internet Explorer utility! This 'flips' your screen sideways (i.e. longways). So you get a total view of 320x240 pixels, which is exactly half of plain ole' VGA's 640x480. This is real good news if you want to view 'normal' web pages on your Casio!
  • A lot of games will not work correctly with this utility, however.
  • A lot of users have reported problems if they have the Casio's power-on password enabled. This utility has to do a system software reset, and if the system is password protected, problems may result!!!
  • StarTap by ThumbsUp
  • A great all around utility suite! Also includes a registry editor, which is very helpful at times!
  • PocketTV by MpegTV
  • It's definately cool to play MPEGs on your E-125! The 150Mhz CPU helps out tons! Checkout PocketMovies.Net for some cool stuff!
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 7
  • While I've installed it with no problems, and I can play MP3s & WMAs with no problem, about the only benefits I've noticed are no sound degredation from transition from foreground to background, and it finds files that are not necessarily in 'My Documents' folders. That should help out new guys a ton! I know it confused the hell out of me.
  • In any case, on Microsoft's site they hype up audio AND video. But I can't get it to play video, and even the MS WMP FAQ says it can't play video. Then why the hell are they promoting it as a video player???
  • Cortona Pocket VRML Viewer by Parallel Graphics
  • WHAT? A VRML viewer for the Pocket PC! SCHWEET!
  • I love this thing. It's a little slow, but then again I have problems viewing VRML on my 500Mhz home machine... let alone a 150Mhz Casio E-125!
  • In any case, I think it's absolutely awesome that I can view VRML files on my pocket PC, and this utility is definately cool!!!
  • 555 Timer Calculator from PDA Resources
  • For the electronics enthusiast, this is really cool.
  • You can enter your resistor & capacitor values, and it will tell you how long the output is, and what the reset time is! You can even use it in one-shot, or repeat modes! Cool!
  • Software I've Had Problems With

  • PE FTP Explorer
  • I originially thought this was a FREE shareware utility. It's not! I'm not paying for a simple FTP client... something that's included in every other operating system as an integrated solution.. ha! :)
  • Palm Remote
  • Am able to start program
  • Once I hit a button, my Pocket-PC freezes, and will not even shut off! I have to hard-reset it!
  • HP JetSend
  • Am not able to communicate via IR with my HP LaserJet 5N at work.
  • Printer has IR adapter, and the LED flashes when I try to transmit, but after a few seconds, the software errors and nothing is printed.
  • MAME CE3
  • Lots of games run pretty slow. Some games will run without sound pretty well, but it you enable the sound, the game is just not playable.
  • Lots of games recognized by MAME for Windows aren't recognized by MAME CE3.
  • ATSCREEN & Screen Off
  • UPDATE: Please check out the 'Tips & Tricks Section!' Media Player is capable of screen blanking by itself! This solves the problem!!!
  • With BOTH of these programs, I have the same problem: They don't work. When they're launched, a message pops up stating that something is missing.
  • I've gotten e-mail from Scott, who wrote Screen Off, and he says that Casio has removed a DLL necessary to run the program.
